Victor Leigh
I have some forums that started slow and steady. There are also forums which start off with a bang. Usually those which start off with a bang involved spending a lot of money on paid forum posting. The question is whether it is possible to start off a forum with a bang without spending a lot of money. What do you think?
Administrators Nathan Posted January 7, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 7, 2013 Yes it is. I opened this one for an upcoming game 2 months back and spent no money except the forum license and domain. Just organically it's grown. Victor Leigh
Really? You mean it grew without spending any money on advertising at all? Not even paid forum posting? That's interesting. So what's the secret behind it's organic growth?
Administrators Nathan Posted January 7, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 7, 2013 Nope nothing at all. I just found a niche before anyone else got there. When people started to look for more info on the game I came up in the SERPS right under the official site and it took off.
Administrators Nathan Posted January 7, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 7, 2013 I also started Old School Gamers and it's grown quickly without spending anything. It's a niche for a certain game as well. Seems niche's are much easier to get rolling.
ridwan sameer
as Nathan said, It was his NicheHe made a forum about a game that's getting alot of hype now, it''s not released so there are rumors running about.. and the best way to spread rumors? Forums So nathan has it good with thatBut other ways other than deciding the perfect niche im not really sure.. Maybe word of mouth?
Victor Leigh
Word of mouth? That's a possibility. I suppose, in this internet era, spreading the news via Facebook would count as word of mouth. I have been playing with Facebook for the past couple of weeks. It's rather interesting to see what kind of things get shared and re-shared.
Zerth
Yeah it's possible to just pay for the hosting and domain and not pay for forum posting. If I opened one, I'd get a few friends of mine and start posting, then after you get some good content in there, just post the link somewhere and I'm sure people would be interested in joining if they see the content that's provided and know it will not be a dead forum. Yes, that's a very good idea. It would be good to give your forum a kickstart by rounding up a group of real life friends and have some kind of posting party over the weekends. Everyone brings their laptops. You supply the drinks and snacks. Then you all go chasing each other's posts all over the forum. btw I have been trying out HootSuite Pro. That one has the bulk scheduling tool and it works. You can try the Pro version for free for 30 days, no obligations.

Haha, yeah give them a few snacks for their posts, in the end it would be worth it as you'd be having a good content forum, good posts, and more people will join and you'd gain some good revenue

You know, posting on the same forum while sitting around the same table can be a lot of fun. You can discuss what kind of threads and posts you want to make before you put them in the forum. Sort of like what professional wrestlers do before they enter the ring.

Yeah that's true, so you'd get double the benefits ;] And yeah, you can discuss what threads that would catch attention to visitors and by sitting round a table, you'd get more ideas and much more threads added. KMRock
Yeah it's possible to just pay for the hosting and domain and not pay for forum posting. You need to be careful to not fall into the trap of thinking people will join up to the forum just based on some initial activity. More factors than activity will be needed, and more exposure than 1 link, usually.
