DarkGizmo
What's your budget? Knowing your budget is half the battle. I'd recommend HawkHost. They're what I use and they're fantastic.
Toadboyblue
Well, I'm a 13 year old boy. My budget, I make about 10/month, if I work a little overtime, I can make more, but that's usually what I make. I'll check out that site though, thanks for the help! Victor Leigh
If you just want to see how things look like, you can also host your site on your own computer. Just set up WAMP or XAMP, whichever works best for you. If you want to see how it looks online and don't want to spend a cent, yet. Then I suggest lurking in WebHostingTalk. There are always some new hosting companies giving away free hosting plans there.
Administrators Nathan Posted January 8, 2013 Administrators Share Posted January 8, 2013 If you are looking to learn I would even help you out with a free hosting account if you like?
Victor Leigh
If you are looking to learn I would even help you out with a free hosting account if you like? You can? I didn't know you are into hosting plans. Maybe you can put this as an item in the shop. Would be a popular item. Virtual money for virtual space. Sounds good. Thomas
http://x10hosting.com/ is the free version of x10Premium. I'd go with them for now as they give you all the tools that you are likely to see later on in web development.
Victor Leigh
Good call will do. Aha, the shop is filling up very nicely then. So how much are you pricing the hosting plans? Perhaps you can make them into three sizes. Like one tiny one just big enough to get started with a blog. Then a medium one for when things grow. And a big one for when members get rich with virtual currency and they can afford a really big plan for their sites.
Toadboyblue
If you are looking to learn I would even help you out with a free hosting account if you like? I am looking to learn, It would be great if you could do that! I'm trying to get some practice in website design, and hosting. In order to make some of my own websites someday! simplysidy
If you want to learn, try downloading and installing XAMPP (on windows) LAMP (on LINUX) or MAMP (on MAC) - depending on your platform. Develop the site as you want - PHP and MySQL is supported and installed when you install any of the above. Once done, then if you need to showcase your work to the world, you can go for free hosting provided by 000webhost.com - they will provide you a subdomain like url and no investments needed. Glitch - your website will have some adverts. And if you feel you should have more control, then in <10/month there are many who are on the cards
Deenajean
I would recommend Godaddy or Hostagator.. Ive been with them both for a long time, and customer service has been great with both.

Yea, I was thinking of checking out GoDaddy myself considering I see their "provocative" commercials on tv all of the time. I never thought their marketing plan would really inspire people to want to buy websites but I guess its working because I'm interested. I have not seen their tv ads but I have seen their poster girls on their site. Do you mean that those poster girls can influence you to use their service? No wonder they are using poster girls then. Thomas
They are all over the UK. TV, Raido and even posters in the railway system.

I wonder if it is something to do with your location. Is the problem with GoDaddy hosting or GoDaddy domain registration ? Because the latter did have a major problem last year, and plenty of DNS were lost. And a major chunk of people shifted to other hosting companies. NicheGuy
I've always used Hostgator for my hosting and GoDaddy for domains. There are different levels but their "Hatching Plan" starts at $3.97 per month. Not bad for monthly service that has really never failed me. Some have commented that service and support is poor, but for many years I've never run into a problem and I have a lot of sites being hosted. vxacid
If you have the money and the time, get a dedicated server. You won't get as much power for the price, but you'll have full control over your server! I got one from RamNode and I learned a lot about server administration and Linux in general. If you don't want to deal with that, however, then use DreamHost or Hostgator. Stay away from GoDaddy, they're pretty scummy people and their CEO has questionable morals.
