KMRock Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I am looking to start up a few projects, but only to muck around and when they are ready to go, transfer to a paid host. This won;t happen for about 6 months thus I am investigating if anyone knows any reliable, free webhosts...or are they all crappy, ad riddled hosts? Quote

I wouldn't say they're all crappy, ad riddled, but I honestly wouldn't expect much out of them. Just remember, they're not obligated to provide you anything at all... working one day then gone the next. DarkGizmo and KMRock 2 Quote
DarkGizmo Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I agree ^. You get what you pay for with free hosts but if you don't necessarily need them to be too reliable. I hear x10hosting is good. Quote
dagscot Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I'm doing the exact same thing though I'm looking for free webhosts that will offer the resources I need to host a few Wordpress sites. For the moment, I've settled on 000Webhost as they offer both php and MySQL in their free webhosting plan. I haven't been signed with them to see how much support they offer but I intend to google that. Quote
KMRock Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 I used to like 000Webhost but they once lost my site and had no record of it on their servers. I, being young and foolish, didn't back it up...rookie error, but still, support wasn't amazing. Quote

KMRock Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Yeah, you get what you pay for...aka nothing haha. Nah I have had a bit of success with: > x10 > http://freehostingnoads.net/ Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 If you are in this game for the long term, you should not be looking at free hosts at all. You should get your own vps, set up your own control panel and create little sites for testing purposes. We are not talking about hundreds of dollars per month. Just 20usd per month is good enough to get a reasonably-sized vps. Myself, I pay about 20usd per month for a cloud server and I get 2Gb ram and 80Gb space with 8Tb bandwidth. Fair price? johnthomas1433 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Try out XtreemHost. I have not yet seen a better free web host than. But rather than going for a free web host, I always recommend to atleast get yourself a shared hosting plan. Quote
BarryLejieg Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 When it comes to free hosting I only go with one option always, and that is Awardspace. I think for free hosting it's the most credible offer on the web. Quote
KMRock Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Cheers for the feedback guys, I will check out all of the suggested options! Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Many years ago, when I was first starting on this hosting thing, I looked around for a free host, too, to learn about webhosting. The best I have found is offered by Stonerocket.net. They are a post-to-host service. However their requirement is very low. Just 10 posts. And only one time. Somehow they managed to survive because I just checked and saw that they are still very much alive. They have no ads on the free sites, but I always put their badge on out of simple courtesy. Plus their servers do work very well. One other thing, posting on their forums has a built-in bonus. Since they depend fully on their ads on their forum for their income, their forum is very well-SEOed. So when you post on their forum with your signature link, search engines pick up your posts very fast. Unbelievable? Only way to find out is to try it yourself. After all, how long does it take you to make 10 posts? btw Stonerocket.net does not have a paid option. So they will not be pestering you to upgrade because there's nothing to upgrade to. Here's the link: http://www.stonerocket.net/ Of course, it's not an affiliate link. How can you make money out of recommending a free hosting service?! Quote

Well maybe the service is good, but I can not respect a Internet company that still used a design that would shame to 1990s.... Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Well maybe the service is good, but I can not respect a Internet company that still used a design that would shame to 1990s.... Really? In that case, what is your opinion of this design? 90s? 60s? Quote
johnthomas1433 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Well maybe the service is good, but I can not respect a Internet company that still used a design that would shame to 1990s.... Yes. The design does not look professional. Looking probably like the 80s or 90s. I have never used their service, and hence I cant comment on that. But from what Victor said, their service does look interesting. Quote
KMRock Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 I might have to check out the site then. Sounds promising. Though maybe I just stick to paid hosts. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) Just found something that absolutely free and very easy to use. Check it out here: http://jottit.com It's just a very simple text site but it works. Edited January 18, 2013 by Victor Leigh Quote
KMRock Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 That site wouldn't load for me for some reason. Quote
justusforus Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I have used 350 pages or 350.com. Yes there are ads (but you can upgrade) but I think it is very user friendly and not as you said, crappy, at all. You can watch a demo or make a no obligation site and see for yourself. I understand this one is out of the UK and been around a while. Good luck. Quote
MoneyMakerWays Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 If you want to create a new site for free than I recommend using WordPress platform and create a free site at wordpress.org. I can tell from my own experience that this is really a great option, but your ability for customizing and improving your free site is very low. For example you can't sell it, because there is a wordpress keyword in any free site's url. The second option is to create a site for free at blogspot.com. It's a Google's product and I saw some good testimonials about this platform as well. Quote
