ENO1986 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I know this a general question, but I don’t see the point I mean if your CPU is outdated why not just buy a new one CPU‘s a fairly cheap these day. Quote
carlalexander Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I guess it makes them feel wise since they understand how to play around with doors and overclock their processors, lol, You are right, some time back it was pretty hard and expensive to get your hands to a fast porcessor hence the need to overclock your cpu but today, you can get a very fast processor that only uses 60% of its resources at peak performance. ridwan sameer Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Who says they only overclock when its outdated?People with i5's and i7's at the moment overclock their CPU's.Even Intel know's it, so they release unlocked "K" Processors. Why not get the most power out of something youi buy? Quote

Buy a powerful processor with more power than you will ever need. Plus overclocking makes your entire system unstable, it can crush anytime in case you do it wrong. Quote
Profit5500 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Who says they only overclock when its outdated? People with i5's and i7's at the moment overclock their CPU's. Even Intel know's it, so they release unlocked "K" Processors. Why not get the most power out of something youi buy? People do it to test to see how far their cpu can go. I did it to my Pentium 4 3.4ghz processor which I ran up to 3.7ghz and the processor ran just fine. I tried to overclock by 20% which the computer displayed in the 4.08ghz and then the computer crashed. So I chose to stay at 3.4ghz and not overclock anymore. Quote
Soulwatcher Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 They overclock because they are insane! Overclocking cuts the life expectancy of the CPU by 80% or more. Stay far away from overclocking unless you plan on updating your CPU every two years. P.S. a overclocked cpu can die at any time and the manufacture will not warranty it. Greg Quote

Greg I think so too, the correct way of speeding things up is to add max RAM and partition your HD this would give you a speed boost. Overclocking always leads to overheating and that my friend will lead to a slower speed and in some cases the CPU would just Hang and literally burn to death. Done it a couple of times in the past Quote
fishbate Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 For me overclocking your system is an option but not a necessity. Every systems have minimum and maximum specifications. Working your system on its maximum capacity may get your system faster but it will be susceptible to hardware and system failure. Its like putting a whole egg on an oven. Once the egg reached its maximum tolerance, you will only have something to clean... Quote
TheInsaneSakif Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 My CPU is Intel Core i5 6500 @ 3.20GHz, and it works just fine. I don't want to overclock it because I fear that it may get damaged. I've heard rumors of people overclocking their systems and then regretting it later. Overclocking will surely improve performance, but I'm not willing to take that risk. Quote
Carly Swinson Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I think gaming enthusiast like to overclock there computer to get better gaming experience. Quote
davedaot04 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Obviously people overclock their CPUs to get a faster computer overall, like gaming, video editing, etcétera. to get smoother gaming experience and to be more satisfied with the performance. Quote
NikSuks Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 People tend to overclock their CPU because they want to make games and programs run better on their PC. Some people overclock their CPU because some CPUs are good for overclocking and tweaking. Also, the reason why people overclock CPUs is simple: the numbers. The higher the number, the more powerful your machine looks like, I guess 3.8 Ghz processor looks more powerful than 3.2 Ghz one ( if we are talking about overclocked and default speeds of the same processor, of course ).
