Is Social Media Good?

People both kids and adults are into social media nowadays.  Social Media is used as entertainment and basically to connect people, this is the good side of it.  It also has its flaws and bad side.  

What is your take on Social Media is it Good or Bad?

As long as it helps more than it does in a negative way, I'd say that it's good. It helps people in ways that we have never imagined 18 years ago.

I agree that it's both good and bad, and in my opinion in its present state social media is more bad than good because of all the fake news, scams, and low morals we see in it everyday.  But it's still in its infancy stage and still evolving, I do believe that all these problem areas would be minimized in the future.

It also allows people to connect that otherwise would not connect, which is a good thing.

I think social media just emphasizes and even exaggerates many existing social issues we face. There has always been different information distributed to different communities in order to sway their vote or influence their behavior. Instead of calling it "fake news" it used to be called "propaganda." And propaganda has been around for a very very long time. A lot of the propaganda techniques used today actually came from World War I & II eras and the National Socialists and Communists. So when you see people on both the left and right trying to influence people with fake news and by rewriting school textbooks, they are basically using the same tactics the Nazis and Communists used. With social media, it just made it easier for modern day propagandists to ply their trade. It also made it more obvious, which may be their eventual downfall.

So it is bad that social media has been used to spread so much propaganda (aka fake news), but it is actually good that social media actually exposed a practice that has been going on a long time before social media even existed. And now people are more aware of the existence of propaganda, and that is a good thing.

Social media is the best thing that ever happened in communications since the mobile phone was invented, in this media people of all walks of life can connect and communicate, it is a necessity in today's fast paced world and without it, we would go back to the 80's.  There are also things in social media which are not not in the best interest of people as you said but it is a fact that in all organizations and groups there are rotten eggs, there are good guys and there always bad guys, it's always good vs evil, one cannot exist without the other.  That is how the world works.

It still has more pros than cons so far, but like anything, it can be abused by the corporations and people can also overuse it and become too dependent on it, reducing productivity in the long run.

If this question was given 10 years ago I'd say social media is good, however because it's already 2018 and a lot of bad things have already happened I'd say social media is bad. I was actually one of the few persons who had witnessed the start of social media and was able to see its ups and downs throughout the years. For me, it would have been better if social media platforms weren't very open and much more strict because as I've observed, the purpose and the main goal of social media has been destroyed since 2012-present. More and more kids and teenagers are addicted to social media and what they do with it is not the main goal of its creation. Before, because my parents' boss were out of the country, social media platforms like Facebook has been a very good help in terms of communication. However, that is not the case for today and the past 5 years. When I was in high school I communicate with distant classmates through Facebook, but now even classmates next door use Facebook to communicate, and that's just hilarious. I mean, there's no harm in talking outside face to face. Social media also made a gap between the parents and their children because as I've observed, teenagers prefer to post their problems online than to seek advise from their parents. If you look at it closely, the once called help for better communication is now ruining the true essence of good communication.

Social media has been used by the masses to pull down dictators,change the status quo. It has lifted lots of people from poverty. It helps people keep in touch with family,friends and relatives at the lowest possible cost.

Trolls and cyber bullies have destroyed so many lives via social media.

Minors are easily corrupted by communication in social media.

I think that social media sites are good for us because it helps us to socialize, connect with people from all over the world and meet people that we could not meet otherwise. Besides these sites can help people to talk with their families that live in another country.

Social media is amazing. I live on social media. I live on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. If you think about it what did you do without social media?. For me social media is a big ball of information that I can't seem to get enough of. I get my news from Facebook and Twitter , I get my gossip from Facebook. I shop and get inspiration from Pinterest. I can't remember a moment of any single day that I'm not on social media. For me social media has its benefits and disadvantages.

With regards to the benefits, social media allows you to communicate with your friends who are in another country.  It also can keep you updated with the latest news.  Finally, social media can help business improve profits by connecting with their customers.

As for the bad side of social media, it can sometimes be a time waster by making you read all the updates of your friends.  Another disadvantage is that sharing too much of your life in social media can lead to problems. Furthermore, although social media keeps you connected it encourages antisocial behavior favoring online communication instead of face to face conversation.

Web-based social networking isn't generally an online diversion or lingering stage. While some might be dependent on their online networking systems, it is extraordinary compared to other approaches to remain educated. Real news outlets, partnerships and people of intrigue utilize online networking to convey messages to the majority. With things posting instantly, general society remains educated. For me It’s good and bad like many and most things. It’s also subjective. Perhaps you are too dependent on social media and use it as a crutch for something. That’s a potential redirecting of energy that may need to happen. It all depends.

Is social media Good: For me if you just know what is the real purpose of the social media and know your limitation for me it was good. Because social media is the best source of communication as of now, to have a connection with your family, loveones and friends especially if they are far from you. But some of people misused the the social media and it will lead into not good result. So for me it depends who uses the social media.

I think it depends on how you look at it. It's a choice depending on how it affects  you. It cannot be denied that somehow it influence us especially with the kids. But, as parents it's always best to guide the young one's on responsibility on handling  any sites not only on social media. There is always a risk in everything we do. It's a choice and a decision to make. Think wisely.

Social media is both goid and bad depending on how you look at it. If it is for funny postings and also posting adult content then it is bad. If you use it for marketing and traffic, then it is very good.

Social media is good if you use it positively. You can connect with your friends, have fun in group chats and share some amazing videos and pictures. If you use it for negative things such as using it for threatening activities, hacking your friend's profile by sneaking in their passwords, abusing and harassing women, involving in dirty politics, then there is a chance you might have to meet a police officer very soon.

It is both good and bad. One of the good things about social media is the ability to connect with other people, who may be living far away. Also, social media is great for sharing photos and opinions. But there are some bad sides, of course. One of them is the location services which are practically always turned on. That means that administrators can always see your location. Also, privacy is at risk. Every coin has both good and bad sides. Same case with social media.

I agree with the others - it is both. Social media is a powerful tool for connecting people, but it can also be an avenue for cybercrime. Social media addiction is another serious issue that our generation is dealing with.

Social media is both a boon and a bane. I believe that it boils down to how you used it in your life. Social media is quite addictive specially for younger generation. I've seen how unfocused and gadget dependent they are. You can see that they have loads of friends in Facebook but has little to no interaction with actual people they are friends on social media. That is, I think the bad impact of social media to real social context. On the other hand, Facebook has led family together no matter the distance because of it's messaging function and video calls to families and friends.

I believe that everything is good but in moderation. Social media is one of the most amazing tools created by humans. I believe that it has helped the entire population to be where it is today. Connected families from all over the world and people from different walks of life. But too much of this is also not good. It has to controlled especially in children because some people are using social media to scam and hurt others.

Oh I think social media is good. It helped us be connected to each other, but like any other things, it also has its own downsides. Social media is here for a good reason but how people use it is what makes it somewhat bad, but it's not social media's fault but us. I personally avoid Facebook and use only Twitter and Instagram, I don't have to be on Facebook because everyone's on Facebook, if you don't like something about social media, the good thing is you can always delete your account or choose to keep it but ignore what you don't like.
