How and where did you learn to do SEO?

Recommended Posts

Hello Webmasters!

I think we all started as beginners when it comes to SEO and building website rankings. At first, we thought just creating, publishing the website, and writing content would be enough. So how and where did you learn to do SEO? Were those things you learn back then still effective today? Or did Google or other search engines change their criteria and rendered those techniques useless?

Thanks!

The first time I heard about SEO was when I was given articles to write in exchange for money and told to make it SEO friendly. I quickly googled SEO and learnt what this was in a matter of ten minutes. Since then I have continued to build my knowledge on the same. I have realized it's importance. To learn SEO i have subscribed to Neil Patel's newsletter. Neil is known in the online marketing circles for his ability to come up with strategies that drive traffic to any website. If you Google his name you will see how many of his websites rank number one because of his ability to use SEO.

How and where did you learn to do SEO: I learned to do SEO by reading and watching online advice. The very first reason why start to do it is when I quit my job, when  I am searching for online jobs I found interesting blog that giving an advice on how to work online and then I tried. It was hard to do at the first time really.

The first time I read the word SEO I was baffled. I don't have any idea what it is. I learned later on that it is a ways to optimize browsing experience not just for any sites but for the end-users who wanted to search anything under the sun so long as Google is concern. You tube video and researches do the trick later on.

I learned about SEO during one of my first jobs as a content writer for a company a few years back. Fortunately, I had a rather experienced team head who was more than happy to share her knowledge on how to optimize the content I created. Using that as a starting point, I did my own research and found a lot of articles online which helped me deepen my understanding of SEO. A lot of forums have newbie-friendly guides, and some blogs even specialize in SEO for the non-tech savvy. It's really a boon to have access to this kind of content.

I was in a forum about internet marketing when I started noticing discussions about SEO. My intention was to learn affiliate  marketing so I was roaming around the boards of that forum. It's a shame to admit that I was avoiding discussions about SEO because it seemed to be too technical for me. But sooner or later I was trapped in one discussion that I had to read all about the SEO post. That started to arouse my curiosity about SEO when I learned that it can give the site traffic. And now we all know that SEO work is the usual routine of web masters for their sites.

I spend a lot of time on webmaster related forums because of my interest in blogging. On these sites is where I learned the basics of search engine optimization. However since some of the information obtained on forums and blogs gets obsolete at times, when search algorithms are updated, you have to continually keep learning more all the time so you don't lose your rankings.

I would also encourage everyone to read Google's webmaster guidelines frequently because doing what they suggest is likely to get you better rankings in the search engine results pages.
