Talk Tech News Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Youtube, of course. I alosi like Vimeo but it's just that I'm used to uploading videos on Youtube. Dailymotion is not bad either. I don't mind Daily Motion either, it's a different concept to youtube so it makes a change to go on it sometimes. Quote
render Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 YouTube is definitely more preferrable option for hosting video. Reliability and seamless integration with other websites is a way above its competitors. The amount of available videos is just staggering. Quote
MLKS Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Youtube for me. I find Vimeo complicated. Maybe because buffering is too slow because of my internet connection. Youtube because it has more videos and it's basically like a video search engine. Everything is there. Quote
stefan.gogoase Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 I like YouTube more, more people know about it and it doesn't take forever to load, plus there is far more content there to browse. Google is great and once you have an account you can access every thing they have to offer. Quote
rapt0r Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 It's really hard to decide between these two. YouTube is much more popular and has more content than vimeo, but personally I like vimeo's layout better. And as you also mentioned I saw a lot of HD videos exclusively vimeo. I have to cast my vote on youtube though. Quote
Brandon Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I voted for Youtube. I think Vimeo has e cleaner design and looks really cool, but Youtube has a lot more to offer content wise and loads a lot better for me. I get a lot of lag when using Vimeo unfortunately. Hopefully that will change in the future. Quote
techtonic Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I've uploaded the same videos on both and find that youtube gets more hits overall but if it's a video about video making, vimeo seems to be more popular. It's a site made for people serious about video rather than just uploading the lastest thing shot on their phone. Quote
mrnothersan Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Even though I've never used Vimeo, I'd definitely say YouTube. It's got to be more popular, and has more relevant stuff on it, and is going to be much easier for you in the long run. It will get your videos more views too! Quote
BlackHatClass Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Vimeo Pro. It's cheap, reliable and super sexy. Quote
Godric Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Right now i like youtube becuase of slow connection. But i usually use all the sites including VImeo and others. Quote
EllaHalligan Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Honestly, I love Vimeo... but with Youtube being connected to Google, it would be dumb to not utilize its reach. I'm always shocked at the number of views I get on videos that I just threw together for my kids and so on... It's simply the smart way to go. If I was just using it for hosting, though, and didn't want the reach, I'd choose to use Vimeo. Quote
Talk Tech News Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I've uploaded the same videos on both and find that youtube gets more hits overall but if it's a video about video making, vimeo seems to be more popular. It's a site made for people serious about video rather than just uploading the lastest thing shot on their phone. I think that you have made an important point. Youtube is great but is full of everything, whereas Vimeo is a place that video makers seem to converge. Quote
MustangV10 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I prefer YouTube. It's a good all-round choice and as said, integrates with other Google products. Quote
plprodigy Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I would say YouTube because of its ubiquity. Vimeo might have a good content but they simply cant match the audience and exposure that YouTube commands. Quote
kreso93 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I prefer Youtube, because it's well known and integrated with other Google Products. Quote
TehPhantom Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Doesn't really matter in my opinion because they are the same thing, as long as the quality is sexy, and the website doesn't lag, i'm fine. Quote
BlackHatClass Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Just voted in the poll as well. Not so many like Vimeo apparently, eh? Quote
Collin1000 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 You're correct in saying you see lots of HD stuff on Vimeo - for a while, they were the only ones that supported high quality 720 or 1080p video. YouTube has it now, though they still compress it I believe. Vimeo's got the "sharp" image that many go after. There are also no ads within the player, unlike YouTube. Quote
ford1001 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 For me it would have to be youtube. With the much larger community and also ease of access, Vimeo doesn't even come close Quote
Zacko Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Vimeo overall is almost exclusively for high-wuality and more business-like or actual creative works. Most vimeo views are a result of adverts, not their own Vimeo search. For this reason, I'll be sticking with Youtube in order to garner more views, but enjoy the Vimeo uploads from others. Quote
ItsBrad Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 YouTube, can find the things I want to watch straight away. Quote
Ownageprankers Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I would opt for YouTube because Vimeo videos take forever to load on my computer, and I know there are people with far worse connections than me! And most people don't even know about Vimeo... they may have come across it once or twice, but I don't think as many people head over to Vimeo to search for something. The community behind YouTube is what makes it the most appealing, as Talk Tech News said. The only thing I seriously dislike about YouTube is its heavy censorship of videos containing any copyrighted material, although Vimeo is quite guilty of this as well. It's the 3rd most popular site on the internet so it makes sense to use it in your marketing efforts. But when I use video marketing, I publish my videos on top video sites to get maximum exposure and traffic. I use tubeMogul to publish my videos on multiple sites. I've uploaded some videos from my travels in NYC last yaer and chose Youtube for this. I do like watching videos on Vimeo too, but I don't have an account there and haven't tried to upload anything just yet. My Youtube account is anyway connected to all my other google services, so it was easy to work with. not to mention my camcorder software 'knows' how to automatically upload what I want to my Youtube account, so less work for me. The good and bad thing with youtube is the constant change. Once I find my way on the site they seem to do a overhaul and they keep getting more and more extreme. Quote
TheDespite Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 As it has already been stated quite a number of times. Youtube wins this poll because of it's popularity. But there are also other things making Youtube a really great video sharing site. One of these is the Monetizing option. Once your single video or even whole channel is doing well enough, Youtube will send you an e-mail asking if you would like to put adds on your videos and make revenue from them. This is really great way of earning a little for indie animators like myself. Now I do not know if there is such with Vimeo, but I have never seen any ads on Vimeo's videos. (this might also count as pro for vimeo) Quote
CHiLL Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 YouTube, it just has to be. There's no where else that has the quantity. Quote
offspringftw Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I prefer Youtube. Mainly because it is more popular, it is used by more people. More content equals to more videos you will like. Don't get me wrong, Vimeo is great, everything there is HD and well edited. Its like Facebook vs Google+. Both of them are good, but I prefer the more popular one because more people use it. I don't have a lot of experience with Vimeo and can therefore not talk much about it. Youtube on the other hand has been my favorite site since 2008. Quote
