SpikeTheLobster
What about: cancellations (auction and/or bid) time period (how long the auction runs) relisting the same item if it didn't sell notifications of "auction almost ended" a day or few hours before end, to people who subscribe to thread (or have bid?) marking system for "paid", "sent", "auction complete" (received can be assumed when complete) I trust you realise that sites running this would be MAJOR scam targets? Administrators Nathan Posted February 24, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 24, 2012 Yes all of those things are in the spec, except for the relisting and cancellations. Thanks. I will have to add that in. It's up to the admins to keep the section clean. I'm also developing a plugin that will allow us to see what country people are actually from based off their IP. Scam how? I'm on forums and buy and sell domains, sites, ect.... through auction plugins.
SpikeTheLobster
Scam how? I'm on forums and buy and sell domains, sites, ect.... through auction plugins. Assuming there's no escrow system, I sell you something, wait for you to pay, then disappear. You have absolutely no recourse. The site disclaims all liability, you're screwed. That's the simplest form. There are dozens of holes in systems based on trust which, although they're not a problem to normal people, are an invitation to scumbags the world over. If there's a way to abuse it, they will.
Administrators Nathan Posted February 24, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 24, 2012 Oh ok, well it will be done through PayPal so if something does go wrong you can always dispute the charge and get your money back.
SpikeTheLobster
There are scams that work around Paypal, too. It's not a problem from the programming point of view, it's just not something I would ever put on a forum of mine, simply because it would be way too much hassle dealing with all the unhappy people. I agree that there are scammers out there... But living in a fear based perspective is too restrictive for me
SpikeTheLobster
Nothing to do with fear: as the Admin or owner of a site, you have to be REALLY careful about what you let people do on your site, what liability is implied by running certain scripts, addons, plugins and whatever. If you're not careful with your T&Cs, you end up being responsible for what goes on - legally and financially. Quite apart from that, if you run a system that's open to scams, you'll get a reputation and your traffic will plummet. Charging ahead "fearlessly" isn't always a good thing, especially where business is concerned.

TheMightyEddy
I'm actually going to say that you guys are better going off with a pre-made system for IPB. It is more secure and much more easier to take control of.
Administrators Nathan Posted March 20, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 20, 2012 There is nothing "pre-made" for IPB that does this.
TheMightyEddy
There is nothing "pre-made" for IPB that does this. There actually is. I will update my post once I find it as I own an IPB forum too.
Administrators Nathan Posted March 20, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 20, 2012 Created by IPB? They have IP.Nexus, but that will not be able to do the above. There is nothing here that needs to be kept secure, everything that you do when you create the threads is all public information.
Wiley
Does the auction show the (user)name of the current high bidder? This would be a huge plus, especially if the username must be registered with the forum.
Administrators Nathan Posted April 23, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted April 23, 2012 Yes and the bidding history. Wiley
youtubedomination
Do you know when the custom skin support will be available? The current skin doesn't fit in too well with my current theme.
Administrators Nathan Posted July 14, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted July 14, 2012 At this point all development has stopped, I still plan on completing it, but I have a lot of consulting work that I'm doing that pays So until I get caught up with that I've put this on hold. It was never turned into a fully finished plugin for IPB as the cost would have been an additional 2k to finish.
