Administrators Tony Posted February 14, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 14, 2012 That thing is going to run circles around my 4yr old computer AMD Athalon 64 X2 5000+ 8 GB RAM @ 373 MHz NVidia GeForce 9600 GT
DarkGizmo
Great build! if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? I always thought Alienware was rather overpriced. Plus they are a branch of Dell and I refuse to buy another Dell....very unpleasant to work with when things go wrong. They cheated me out of a part i added into a build and charged me for it, refused to refund me. I'm curious to know how much that Alienware ran you though. Also, let us know how it is when you get it. Be sure to keep us updated if it remains just as good after a few months of use and such. I'm looking for my next PC desktop to be somewhat of a gaming one.
Administrators Nathan Posted February 17, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 17, 2012 Well I had never really thought about an Alienware before as it was always cheaper for me to build the computer myself. This time around I decided to take a look at one, got a list of the parts and went to newegg and priced everything out. It's actually cheaper for me to go through Alienware than to build my own. I'm guessing Dell orders so many parts these days that their bulk discount is helping out. I ended up paying 2600-2700 for the above shipped. Supposed to be here next Thursday....can't wait. DarkGizmo
Hmm not bad if it worked out to be cheaper. Let me know how it's running at a later date and if ya run into any issues if it turns out to be a good build I may consider getting one and giving "Dell" another chance. xD
Administrators Tony Posted February 19, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 19, 2012 As much as I don't like to admit it, I may buy a dell the next time I decide to buy a computer. That's all we bought at my last job, that's what I have at my current job, and I've always had a good experience with their customer service. And a 3 year warranty!! Can't beat it. Yeah and the pricing keeps getting better and better. Not to mention the 0% financing So mine is supposed to be here Thursday...still says in production on their site, so unless they plan on 1,2, or 3 day shipping I'm not sure how it's going to get here on time. Administrators Tony Posted February 19, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 19, 2012 They used to overnight us a 55lb printer anywhere in the country, no questions asked. Don't be surprised if it just shows up the next day

Wow I've always thought piecing it all together is the best way to go, I can't believe its now cheaper to buy stright from dell. I'm not sure if I like this or not. Half the fun is putting all together yourself.
CHiLL
Well that machine blows mine out of the water! Have you thought about sticking an SSD drive as the boot drive, and use the 1TB as storage? SSDs are excellent for boot times as there's no seeking on the drive, with faster access to random bits on the drive. Though Alienware being Alienware, you could probably build a similar spec computer for cheaper. But, your money, your decision. The caddy drive bays look nice, I've never seen them designed sideways like that before on standard tower unit. P.s, That stock photo...do they have enough DVI slots?! Administrators Nathan Posted March 16, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2012 I never received the computer, they pushed the order 3 more times after this, pissed me off. They said they didn't know when the chip would come in and they could put a slower one it and get it out the same day. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do so for now cancelled it. I'm thinking about re-ordering in a few weeks maybe a different chip will be out by then.
CHiLL
That sucks. Is there nowhere else you can build a similar spec system?
ChuckTesta
Wow, what a horrible ending to a great thread. :/ That PC looked beast. I would have probably went with another chip. Even if it drops to like 3.5ish still a screamin PC.
Administrators Nathan Posted March 16, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2012 Yeah I may end up doing that, they just pissed me off so bad, wanted to think on it before making a quick decision.
Jessi
Ugh, that really sucks. So much buildup and then a letdown. It sounds like Dell couldn't really help it considering it was Intel that wasn't shipping them their parts. At the point where they knew it was going to be delayed again, though, they should've offered you the slower one right then or had another brand available of the same speed even. I can only imagine how many people had their orders delayed because of this. That's not good for business. :S
Godric
That was a really good build. And the price was reasonable in my opinion. Too bad it got delayed. Normally in India, we get it in around 3 weeks for DELL. And yes they have good customer support too. Planning to get myself a desktop soon. 1ufakin
Computer looks sick, looks nice and has great specs. Just wondering are those images of the inside of your computer since it looks so neat and when i created my computer the inside was a lot messier. If it is, do you have any tips on how to make it cleaner?
