Administrators Nathan Posted February 23, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 23, 2012 So i'm looking at http://www.big-boards.com/ . Do they ever even update their site anymore? I mean as add new submissions? Or is this a dead site?
Shole
Seems pretty dead to me. Maybe their staff got lazy and don't want to update it . Or they intend to sell it for some reasons.
Administrators Nathan Posted February 23, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 23, 2012 I finally found information on it. They haven't updated for several years and refuse to sell to anyone. Look at their queue: There are currently 15083 forums waiting in our submission queue. In the last month, 1 submissions have been processed. At this rate it will take 15083 months before a new submission will be reviewed. That's like 1200 years lol. Talk Tech News
I am glad that I didn't waste my time submitting to them. I wonder why they have not bothered to do any more updates.
chiller
It's sad they are not updating their website anymore. I've been looking for a similar website with some updated stats. Any alternative to big-boards.com??

bryce12
DMOZ was a rage like 10 years ago but now It takes ages to get a site approved (i.e. if they are still approving sites). It's sad to see that Big-Boards have stopped updating their site, I've used the site many times in the past to find forums for a subject. Nowadays I just use Google query "Niche" + forum to find forums within a niche.
SpikeTheLobster
Dmoz.org is also abandon I believe. Nope. DMOZ still works but it takes months/years to get approved. Why? Because no one uses directories any more. Google has stomped them all to death: it's much quicker to go there and type exactly what Bryce suggested... "niche" forum. Categorised listings are completely irrelevant to modern searching - though it's still nice to get listed if you can, because they act as a high-PR backlink. I suppose it's also an opportunity.
DevilKid
It was quite a good website. When I owned quite a popular forum, it used to come up on there. I guess if they can't be bothered to do anything with it, then there is noting we can do. :/

I think due to heavy back log getting long. G!
Godric
Do you guys get much traffic for directory sites? I never owned a forum so cant say about that. Isnt SEO the best for traffic in current times? BTW i do hope google dies. Its becoming too much of a giant.
SpikeTheLobster
Do you guys get much traffic for directory sites? I never owned a forum so cant say about that. Isnt SEO the best for traffic in current times? I think I've had one click in three years from a directory site. But then I'm not on the "cool" ones built by Kawasaki and the like. SEO works much better. BTW i do hope google dies. Its becoming too much of a giant. That really is the silliest thing I've heard anyone say in a long time. Google dies and we get left with crappy second-rate search engines that prioritise junk content, squash quality and return completely stilted results. Google's done more to push people to create useful sites than any other company, in my opinion. Sure, they're a pain in the arse but without them we'd still have sites that looked like crap and were full of repeated keywords (remember the stuffed sites and Geocities?). The point isn't to get traffic by submitting you links to directories, the point is to gain a high PR backlink. Google die? Why they are awesome at what they do and they bring a lot of traffic to my sites.
