For entertainment: iPad or Laptop?

I was initially taken in by all the fuss surrounding the iPad, being called as a 'Laptop Killer'.

However, it quickly gone down after I actually used it.

I saw what the iPad was capable of and comparing it with a laptop was a far cry!

It's in no measure a substitute for a real laptop.

 

How about you??

Haha, I am trying to convince my friend, which is keen to get an ipad over an laptop, that ipad is just a toy. I admit I never used one, but come on, this comparison is just nonsense, ipad is more for show-off, that's my opinion.

The iPad is a great device, I use mine daily. There are a lot of things you can't do on an iPad you can on a laptop, viewing flash bsed sites is one of them.

Creaky you answered my question having iPhone i can't view any flash based sites, and when click install it said apple currently don't support flash so just thought was iPhone but if iPad don't allow me then really laptop going win for me really.

Laptop wins this round for me. Although an iPad is a wonderful piece of gadgetry, it is more of a "status" item than a utility. A laptop has far more processing power and have features I generally go for that are not present in an iPad. Sure, it's a bit more bulky to carry around, but I can certainly do more stuff with it. Plus, as an avid gamer, a laptop can host a plethora of high-end games enough to get my eyes glued to the screen.

I am little shocked that apple don't support it i do thing odd but if you jail break ipad not sure that can be done will allow you install it, not item would recomend really.

The iPad is a really great device, but it's certainly not a "laptop killer". I love mine, and I use it almost daily, but it does have its flaws. As Creaky said, there's no Flash unless you go with a third-party solution and none of them are flawless (or free). What the iPad really excels at, in my opinion, is gaming. There are so many great titles on the App Store that'll keep you entertained for days on end. A lot of the apps are quite impressive as well, but they still don't match those on Windows/OS X.

 

For entertainment, though, I would say the iPad is quite a good choice. I love using it for Netflix when I'm not gaming or messing around with my apps.

I agree with you completely. An iPad (or other tablet) does not replace a laptop for any type of extensive work, and getting one should not mean being able to get rid of your laptop entirely. Sure, the iPad/tablet can replace your laptop for some tasks, such as watching online videos, but a laptop is still preferred (for me, at least) for almost everything that requires a good amount of RAM and processing power (or Flash :) ).

I dont beleive any Apple products support flash.

 

None of Apple's "mobile" devices support Flash, but at least OS X does. I couldn't imagine ever using it over Windows if it didn't.

Tough question to answer but I personally prefer to use laptop for entertainment because it isn't tight to use and I can do much more things using the laptop than the iPad.

If people really think they can out laptop a laptop with an iPad then it's going to need a few thing: support for a cursor, the ability to edit high quality videos, file sharing, and a real operating system. I'm not going to hate on people thinking that an iPad will make laptops obsolete, but there are 3 levels of convenience now. Desktop computers are in a category of their own, then it's laptops, and finally cellphones and tablets. I think eventually the tablets will replace the cellphone, because who honestly needs and iPhone and an iPad? Both perform the same tasks except the iPad can put out more processing power and higher resolution graphics.

Anyways, back on topic. I feel an iPad is a consumption device more than a full blown computing device. If you're an email/web surfing junkie then an iPad is ok. But when you need to start making presentations, excel spreadsheets, word documents etc. You'll quickly realize the iPad can't replace a laptop (at this current time).

laptop by far.. Even though the iPad has more games and specialized apps, a laptop will help get things done, whether it be work or anything else.

The one thing iPad excels in is its battery life. If you want to use a gadget for entertainment, you're probably going to be listening to music and watching videos a lot, which drains batteries pretty quickly. iPad was meant to be a supplement to laptops, not a replacement. Each one has its place.

I will probably get the HD iPad Apple will be making but for a lot of things, it's not as good as a laptop. It's not fun to type on the virtual keyboard and none of the external keyboards are that great. Laptops just have to fold up. The ASUS is a tablet that tries to bridge the two.

A laptop has more functions and more software compared to a ipad. Anything a ipad can do, a laptop can do better as well. A laptop has internet websites with adobe flash that you can watch videos and movies. Adobe flash does not support the ipad or any ipod device. A laptop can also be used as a e-reader if you like to read books in electronic form like the ipad. The ipad is overprice and with that price you might as well invest in a laptop computer.
