Making money from forums?
johnthomas1433 replied to KMRock's topic in Advertising, Marketing, Monetization & Social Media
Actually you can make big money from forums too, but you are right with the fact that it may take some time to get back your investment. An easier option shall be to start your own blog. Promoting CPA offers may sound good at the beginning, but I'm not sure whether the community shall like to see CPA ads all the time.- 44 replies

Yes. The design does not look professional. Looking probably like the 80s or 90s. I have never used their service, and hence I cant comment on that. But from what Victor said, their service does look interesting.

I rather go for the monthly basis. I know that yearly payment does get us more discounts, but if I have any problem with a host, monthly payments make it easier for me to shift. If I had done yearly payments at that time, I shall probably be losing money.

It depends mainly on how much I have to code. If there is nothing much to code, then a couple of hundred dollars shall do. If there is plenty of development and designing to do, I shall charge above $2000.

Have you ever done domain flipping?
johnthomas1433 replied to BarryLejieg's topic in Hosting & Domains
Yes. Its most certainly a great business, considering that there are plenty of newbies in Flippa who have no idea how profitable a website is. You just have to do some keyword research, put up Wordpress, and place some content, and then just flip it! I have flipped a few domains, and they have fetched me more than $1000 apiece. -
Which programming language do you want to learn?
johnthomas1433 replied to bryce12's topic in Programming
The next one I'm thinking about learning is Python. I also want to brush up what all I have learnt in various other languages, so that I wont be forgeting them soon. -
Yes. It shall close automatically when the page is finished executing. But when you are thinking about multiple databases and multiple tables, it does become relevant to close your connection as soon as you are finished with it.

Rather than installing the PHP yourselves, I suggest you install some IDE like Xampp, or Wamp, and they does make your job easier. Also do not try coding in Dreamweaver, as they shall generate the code most of the times with drag and drop, and that is not good. Better use Notepad++ like the rest of us.

What was the First Programming Language You Learned?
johnthomas1433 replied to Hardison's topic in Programming
The first language that I ever learnt was C++, and we were made to learn it young. Those these days we mostly use C and Embedded C, C++ is most certainly opened up the path for learning plenty of other languages like PHP, Java, C due to their similarities in the syntax. -
Yes. Code Academy is certainly the most interactive learning platform that I have seen. If you want to keep things simple, and learn all the basics. W3Schools may be a good choice too. If its PHP, have a look at Tizag too.

Backdoor entry to CJ
johnthomas1433 replied to Victor Leigh's topic in Advertising, Marketing, Monetization & Social Media
I never tried CJ before, since I already had a couple of accounts in various other CPA websites, and didnt wish to add any more accounts. Are you saying that just because you upgraded your account, you could get in ? -
Monetization Journey
johnthomas1433 replied to Nathan's topic in Advertising, Marketing, Monetization & Social Media
True. But you have only a 24 hour window to make them buy some product from Amazon. If they add some product to the buying cart, you are in luck, as they can buy it in 90 days, and you shall still earn the commission. But your conversion should be terrible. How much was it ? -
Making money from forums?
johnthomas1433 replied to KMRock's topic in Advertising, Marketing, Monetization & Social Media
Its not just the traffic, but rather the quality of the traffic, and your niche. I used to make more than $500 a month from a blog with less than 100 unique visits every day. It mostly depends on your niche. The better your niche and keywords, higher the pay rate per ad.- 44 replies

I used Cloudfare for my websites, and I didnt see any advantage on using it. The main problem was that when I was building a website, Cloudfare shall cache it, and it takes a bit of time to update their cache, and sometimes it does take more than 24 hours for some of my code to take effect.

Try out XtreemHost. I have not yet seen a better free web host than. But rather than going for a free web host, I always recommend to atleast get yourself a shared hosting plan.

Is the problem with GoDaddy hosting or GoDaddy domain registration ? Because the latter did have a major problem last year, and plenty of DNS were lost. And a major chunk of people shifted to other hosting companies.

Does the length of a domain name make any difference?
johnthomas1433 replied to Victor Leigh's topic in Hosting & Domains
Yes. It does. Smaller and catchy names are easier to remember. I have seen people going for 4-5 words domain name, and they are looking for organic traffic alone to an EMD website, and hence it may not be a problem. But shorter domain names are always better. -
I actually didnt understand you. It is misleading. Are you trying to transfer a domain name from one web host to another? If then, just contact the web host to where you are transfering. They shall do it for you. If you want to use the domain name for another website, just use a 301 redirect in .htacces

Ads do have a lot to do with it. Suppose you have a 500 word article running in your website, and you have plenty of ads all around that article (say 4-5 ad spaces), Google can take it as a thin content. But if the some content is written in a page with less than 3 ad spaces, Google may not take it as thin content. Google does take in the factor of the ads to the content ratio to figure out whether a website is thin or not.

What does "sandboxed" mean?
johnthomas1433 replied to Ram8349's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Seems like most of the above posters do not have the idea about what a sandbox is. Just like the word say, it is some kind of box where you are limited priveleges. Just like you run a program in a sandbox mode. When someone starts a new website and does perfect SEO, he or she is able to rank quite fast in the serps. All you have to do is to gain the perfect backlinks. Some of them even blast their websites with tens of thousands of backlinks in a fortnight for their website to rank. But Google does not like it. There is no way a new website shall gain so many backlinks in such a short time. So Google shall place their website in a Sandbox. When that happens, whatever SEO you do, your website is never going to reach the top serps. Its not a penalty, but rather a limitation. It may be anywhere a month to over 6 months, but that shall depend on your website. -
Quick ways to get backlinks
johnthomas1433 replied to KMRock's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Wrong. Nofollow links may not pass like link juice, but they do pass authority. And when it comes to ranking a website, that's very important. Consider yourselves in Google's shoes. You find a website that has only dollow links. What shall your thoughts be ?- 18 replies

Backlink Variation
johnthomas1433 replied to KMRock's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
You seemed to have messed like most newbies, when it comes to dofollow and a nofollow link. You seem to think that having a dofollow link is much better than a nofollow link, when that's entirely false. Dofollow links pass link juice and Nofollow does not, and that doesnt mean that your rankings depend on the link juice. -
How important is fresh content?
johnthomas1433 replied to Ram8349's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Even if you edit the page and republish the page without changing anything, the date of the post shall vary, and this is enough for Google to see it as an updated content. You do not even have to add a new line. -
Wiki Backlinks?
johnthomas1433 replied to bryce12's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Wiki links are indeed popular, but there are few things that you need to look out for: 1) Wiki backlinks by default are nofollow, and only MediaWiki backlinks are by default, dofollow 2) Even Viagra and Adult websites are targeting wiki backlinks. Wont do much good for you to have a backlink on a wiki site which links to an adult website too, right? 3) Most of them are indeed PR 0 -
How important is fresh content?
johnthomas1433 replied to Ram8349's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Absolutely not. But if you check the indexing rate of your website by search engines like Google, you shall see that they shall drop considerably if you are not providing fresh content regularly. Because what's the point of them indexing the same thing again and again if there is no change to it?
