But on the flip side, as computing power increases, so will the performance of laptops, taking them closer to desktops, allowing them to do more things.

That isn't exactly constructive, and we don't want to start a flame war now, do we?

Browser speed is becoming less of a factor with technology advancing in the way it is.

Windows Search is more than enough for the average user. The Start Menu items and user area are the most commonly used places. However if you want to search your entire system, then this is probably better. But if it works like Windows Indexing (where is scans the system and keeps tabs of where files are) then it may slow systems down.

They won't be able to touch the sales that the iPad has, but I do think it will still do well. It's all going to depend on pricing.Get that right, as in undercut the iPad by quite a bit...then they're in for a chance of success. However, I do think that tablet computers are a fad, just like netbooks were.
-
Good point, I hadn't thought about that.

That would be useful on Windows XP or earlier, but Windows Vista and 7 has it's own built-in indexing feature which does just that.

saw this article yesterday about potential changes to domain names
CHiLL replied to S.O. Price's topic in Hosting & Domains
It'll be a problem because everyone* knows www.google.com, www.microsoft.com, www.bbc.co.uk, etc. It's a naming convention that works. Changing that to something like news.bbc, gmail.google or windows8.microsoft would be so far from what everyone is used to. Don't forget, people don't like change. *I know that not every single person in the world knows, but you get my point. -
The Netherlands are out of the tournament, after finishing at the bottom of group B, without a single point. They lost all three of their matches. That's the shock of the tournament so far.

You need to find out what ports the game requires, and setup port forwarding for those ports on your router. Or, you could put the computer in the router's DMZ, but that's a big security risk.

Not necessarily the case. Intel can't compete against AMD's budget processors in the same way AMD can't compete with Intel's high performance processors. Things change, back in the early 2000s, AMD were the performance processors to have.

I prefer Scintilla (SciTE) over Notepad++ (even though that has the SciTE engine or what ever), but that's only because SciTE highlights vbscript better than Notepad++.

Wouldn't it just be easier and safer to change the password? -
Found this question interesting..
CHiLL replied to BlackHatClass's topic in Search Engine Optimization & Traffic Building
Aside from the Internet search industry, Google found an area to exploit - advertising within said searching...this is what made Google so big. So what did it do next? It found other areas it could move into...web-based email, videos, cloud services, mapping, calendars, shopping, social networking, image searching, and the list goes on. -
General Chat; Now the place where people dump info to boost post count?
CHiLL replied to offspringftw's topic in General Chat
I find General Chat and the gaming sub forum are my most active sections. There's no point in me posting within a help thread about a subject I know nothing about, such as Linux, web hosting or most programming languages. -
UK govt officially decides to scrap boring school ICT lessons

Not from a technical support point of view. Teachers who think they know best, budget cuts, job losses and now this. Woo... -
But that depends on the specification on the machine. On mine, disabling a lot of services won't make much of an impact because it's powerful enough to handle everything at once. If a user, with a modern, but less powerful machine disables a lot of services, then they may notice a difference. However the type of person to do that would be an enthusiast anyway, and would be expecting a performance boost. The average user probably wouldn't notice. What do Microsoft gain by people buying more powerful computers? Not that much to be honest, just licensing costs. Plus, the reason they have all those services running is so things load quicker when you call them, rather than having to wait for the service to start.

Cheers. New York is the city.

That's nice, have you got a link for that? I'd like to add it to my collection. One of the best features Windows 7 has is the ability to shuffle through selected desktop wallpapers. The other day I downloaded a fair few from the National Geographic website, and they were stunning. Here's a few that I got:

You have different things open on different screens, rather than spreading one thing across all. Like Nathan said, it's best when coding, having something to look at on one screen, and the code you're working on, on another.
